A large amount of vacant office space in Manchester is expected to be occupied in the near future, raising the hopes of property owners who have large spaces on hand. The downturn in the economy had severely undermined any developments and fresh leases in the real estate sector.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission may soon be working out of Piccadilly Place, which is owned by the Carlyle Group. The organisation is expected to move from its present offices in Arndale Tower. The new premises will cover a huge area of 40,000 square feet. Office space projects in Belvedere may also get a boost, as the human rights organisation is looking at the Booth Street complex here as a backup space.

The Learning & Skills Council is also looking for new premises and they are expected to take a decision in this regard soon. They will need about 20,000 square feet of space for operations. They are said to be looking at Piccadilly Place for their prospective office. The No. 1 New York Street complex in Bruntwood is also their likely choice for lease.

EC Harris is also likely to move into new premises sometime before yearend. The property consultancy is expected to occupy office space jointly with Eon. The two are said to be chalking out final plans for a deal which will have them operating from the centre of the city.

In all, these developments are predicted to use up about 75,000 square feet of currently vacant office space. Prospective tenants are also under pressure to find the premises that suit them ideally, as the poor economy has forced property owners to consider scrapping some projects.
